Environmental Noise and Vibration
Noise and Vibration Monitoring
Our experience in detailed environmental noise and vibration measurement is comprehensive. We can perform surveys of empty or occupied sites, including accurate determination of the impact from mechanical and transportation sources. For noise surveys, we use equipment that quantifies noise levels in accordance with all local, national, and international standards and regulations. We can conduct simple measurement surveys or automatically monitor noise for extended periods. We have carried out noise compliance surveys nationwide for EPA waste licence and IPPC Licence requirements.
Our engineering team is familiar with noise control standards and regulations world-wide. And, in cases with no mandated limitations, we can help establish appropriate, environmentally friendly goals for your new or expansion project.
Measurement of sound insulation properties of buildings (floors and walls). We can provide measurement of Airborne Sound Insulation and Impact Sound Insulation testing of walls and floors in accordance with Part E of the Irish Building Regulations and International Standards.
Ambient or Background Surveys - documenting the existing noise environment with long or short duration surveys in terms of any required descriptors (Ldn, Leq, L10…)
Regulatory Review – investigating project-specific noise requirements
Noise Impact Assessments – preparing the acoustical sections of any environmental impact statement
Noise Prediction – predicting noise levels from existing and planned sites or facilities using mathematical and empirical modeling techniques
Facility Types
Industrial Facilities/EPA Compliance Monitoring
Residential Developments

Occupational Noise
Glenside Environmental can carry out workplace noise assessments in conjunction with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Control of Noise at Work) Regulations, and advise on their findings.
An initial assessment is made of the work area to identify noise sources. To quantify an operative’s daily noise exposure, Type 1 integrated sound level meters and personal dosimetry is used.
An assessment is made and recommendations given as to the suitability of any hearing protection supplied to ensure that employers do not exceed the exposure limit value and that they are not over protecting their workforce.
Glenside Environmental can carry out workplace noise assessments and is able to give advice for the control and reduction of noise and is also able to assist with the creation of action plans, and the review of assessments.
Legal Duty
The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Control of Noise at Work) Regulations places a legal duty on employers to undertake a risk assessment to ascertain whether employees are exposed to levels of noise that represent a risk to health. These risk assessments should be undertaken by a competent person.
